Thanks for the review Groovissimo. I knew you'd enjoy Jojo's performance. Since you seem to know more than most about what will be/will not be on the DVD, do you have any idea of a possible release date?
Well, just got back from the MD festival and it was great !
Drumming Joe and Andy posted what they saw but nobody got to talk about Volta with Danny Carey and Kirk Covington. This was the only performance not captured on DVD ! I guess that the band was not ready for a recording, although they were a joy to watch and hear.
Danny played great with a Sonor double kick kit and showed a lot of maturity in the way he played. Kirk , for half of the set, sang and played keyboards as if it was his first instrument. But, when he played the drums as a duo with Carey, WOW ! Kirk showed the audience what he is best at - intensive drumming at its best.
Biggest surprize for me was young Brazilian 14 yr old drummer Eloy Casagrande ! Remember this name. You will be hearing a lot about him in the future. He was like Tony Royster when 12 yrs, but, with more maturity and more finesse.
The hit on Sunday was without a doubt JoJo Mayer and his band Nerve. What precision and what hands !
And Keith Carlock was what we expected. Great with a style of his own. Catch Keith if he comes to your town.

Hey Suspiria, how are you doing ? I see you are back home in Switzerland ! Will you be back in Montreal in September ?
Concerning the Modern Drummer DVD, Hudson Music said they are planning to launch the DVD in late Fall of 2005. Maybe they will have some to sell at the Montreal Drum Fest !
I'm a big fan of JoJo. What a great player he is !
Did you know that he is just as great a magician as he is a drummer ?
If Hudson say Fall 2005 I would expect to see it around Jan 2007!
I love them but the stuff is ALWAYS delayed :-(
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hi there. I am doing fine, thanks for asking. You are right in assuming that I am back in Zurich. I am enjoying some time off and will be travelling soon. I'll then be working some time and back in Montreal in September. I can't until the Drum Fest.Originally posted by Groovissimo:

Drumming Joe, Groovissimo and anyone else that attended MD this year,
How was the sound where you were sitting?
Andy
Andy,
In this new venue, the sound seemed to be great everywhere.
I was often sitting in one of the balconies. The big screen was a big advantage for those sitting far back.
The venue reminded me of a grand opera house at the beginning of the century. It seems that this venue was built about 7 or 8 years ago. A real monument !
And being so close to Manhattan, it was easy to go and eat in NYC at the end of the day!
What? The fest is going to be released w every performance exceppt Kirk/Carey/MV?!
I know; legalities, issues, what not, but still...

Dang, that IS a bummer. I was really looking forward to seeing that on DVD. Covington is insane,- and I mean that in the most positive sense of the word.
